Coffee & chocolate
Cacao, a millenary plant, has been used by our ancestors as nourishment, although not always as a dessert or candy.
We invite you to discover our allies proposal: two small producers from Oaxaca who, together with specific farmers, and based on Fair Trade practices, make coffee and chocolate in different forms:
MoreJave
Products shared with us: Their main product is agave syrup, obtained from the agave plant. It’s a great natural sweetener with no chemicals added. It can be consumed by diabetes #1 patients, in small doses. Their second product is “prehispanic chocolate”: a sensational energy bar without any milk or sugar that will help you to keep fit while you enjoy its wonderful taste. They also produce a presentation to prepare hot chocolate.
Sixth sense: these young people put all their effort on quality and the commitment to produce healthy food. With those products you will be able to prepare delicious desserts and drinks.
Caracol Púrpura
Products shared with us: A very large variety of coffee from different regions in Oaxaca and the best chocolate bars. We have selected 4 coffees for 6 Sentidos: Sierra norte, Mixteca, Sierra sur, and Cañada. Additionally, they offer 10 types of cacao bars: 100% cacao, mixture of locally grown cacaos, cardamom, lavander, almonds and sea salt, chile pasilla… Place your order!!
Sixth sense: Their main strength is that they work directly with several producers. Without worrying for distances or rough roads, they always visit their suppliers to work together and be part of a team.
A visit to a coffee facility.
Talking about coffee is simple, producing it is more complex. At 6 Sentidos we have joined our allies at Caracol Púrpura to visit their associate producers, in order to learn and grasp a bit of their world.
In these pictures you will discover a bit of Candelaria Loxicha, just a few kilometers away from Pluma Hidalgo, where Hilario and its family produce and excellent coffee. We also visited Miramar, located in the Mixteca mountain range.
Life as a coffee producer is tough. Of course a big challenge is production, but taking the product to the market is another. A lot of small producers fall prey form a savage market who pays a very low amount for their products (up to 30 pesos per kilo!). Caracol Púrpura, however, makes negotiations that duplicate (and sometimes even triple of more) the coffee price, but they also help the producers to concentrate in an imporved quality, so that the product generates more recognition and price. This is part of being Fair Trade oriented.
All product is selected and analyzed, so that we can offer you a speciality coffe that is not only fresh, but also made with all the heart and passion that it deserves.
Enjoy it, and if you wish to learn more, check this post in our blog (in Spanish).
