Love comes recycling
Isn’t it beautiful to turn discarded glass into a new piece, something that you can use to drink from, or a decorative piece, adding passion and joy to your life?
Xaquixe has been producing recycled glass for more than 20 years in Oaxaca, a city where artisan made products are a central part of the economy. Even though glass wasn’t a common material, they found the way to contribute to the environment collecting the disposed bottles that come from hotels and restaurants, and turning them into new pieces.
Additionally, they recover all the burned oil from those same places and use it as a fuel for their oven, which has to be working on a 24/7 shift, at 1300 degrees Celsius. Magic, you said?
Did you know that glass is one of the few materials that can be used on and on without losing quality, at a fairly low price?
Nowadays, they are an unique value for Mexico’s Southeast, recognized for their techniques and their example of recycling and employing renewable resources. They also have passed on their expertise to artisan producers.
Products shared with us: We have chosen their mezcal glasses, wine cups and small glasses. The colors are just amazing and fun!! If you wish some other products, let us know.
Sixth sense: Definitely sustainability. In their quest, they have worked with clay artisans, mezcal producers, and many other organizations, looking for ways to collaborate and share their learnings.
